|Description:
He has a very short, thin body with tiny paws and his ears are rather large. His eyes are big with thick lashes. His left eye is a robin's egg blue, while his right is lilac. He has long fur on the top of his head that falls into his eyes. This fur is straight and messy. His body is an off white with slate gray and ashy colored patches of fur that blend together in a disarranged pattern. The top of his head and back are mainly a slate gray while his underbelly is mainly the off white.

 | Positive Traits:

[Competitive]
As reserved as Kalani is, he can't help but throw himself into any challenge that comes his way. He loves games and loves to win. That's not to say that he's a sore loser. He's excited simply by the act of having people to go up against to test his skills and grow. His competitive streak can come across as negative, but in his case its truly not. It's one of the only ways he manages to have positive interactions with other cats outside of his family and friends. He's more likely to play with others if he see's the game as a competition. It's one of the only times cats have seen him genuinely smile.


[Avid Learner]
Kalani loves to learn. He gets excited when he finds himself in a situation where he knows he can learn something. He often goes out of his way to find new things to learn. If you know something of use to Kalani that he's never heard of he'll most likely look at you like you hung the stars in the sky. He often tends to listen to cats until he knows everything they have to share with him, exhausting that resource of knowledge. The only time that Kalani really looks happy and excited is when he's learning or competing.

Kalani is very sure of himself as an individual. He's aware of his physical weakness but is also aware of his mental strengths. He knows what he can do and what he can't as far as his physical body goes, using that knowledge to his advantage. He chooses not to let his height hinder him or view being a dark elemental as negative. He knows who he is and refuses to let another cat tell him differently.

As cold as Kalani comes across he's really a big softy underneath it all. He worries about others and if he sees a cat is feeling unsure or insecure he will say something to try and comfort them. He cares deeply for his sister and friends and smiles often when alone with them. He thinks that every cat no matter how different deserves some form of kindness. When he has been kind to another cat he will often play it off, saying that he didn't say something nice about them because he wanted them to feel better, but that it was simply a fact that should be obvious to everyone.

[Perceptive] 
Kalani is really good at reading people and situations. His main ability Soul Perception magnifies this trait. He uses it to his advantage whether its by saying the right things to match a cat's mood or changing a situation in his favor. He often reads a cat's personality and uses that knowledge to convince them to do something. He can also use this skill to defuse a bad situation, reading the mood and saying the right words to please both parties and calm them down. Kalani usually uses this skill with little to no thought of the cats privacy.

[Manipulative]
Kalani's perceptiveness enhances his skills of manipulation. If a cat is going to put themselves or others in danger Kalani would manipulate them into making a different choice by letting them think that they chose it. He could also manipulate someone into doing the things he wants by convincing them that its what they want, playing off of their mood and personality. The way Kalani goes about manipulating others often leaves them not knowing they were even being manipulated. His close friends and family are not so easily fooled. Kalani himself isn't always aware that he's being manipulative.

[Impish]
Kalani tends to gain enjoyment from teasing and pranking others. He's got a bit of a mischievous streak. Kalani will often prank people in ways that are just slightly inconvenient mainly because he's curious about how they'll react to it. He's fascinated by others and how they handle unexpected situations. Kalani, like many others, finds himself a lot funnier than other people think he is. Fair warning: if you try to take Kalani on in a prank war, his competitive side will kick in and he won't hold back.

Kalani is very withdrawn and reserved, and only a few things can break him out of his shell. Competitions and learning being a few examples. He doesn't like to talk to a lot of cats, and he's very slow to open up to others and share his opinion. If you want to be friends with Kalani, you have to be patient and work hard to gain his trust and respect. If you share a similar personality or mindset to Kalani, that will make it easier for you to get closer to him. That doesn't mean that he's drawn to people like him, but that its easier for him to relate to them.

[Proud]
Sometimes Kalani can be too confident in his mental strengths, to the point where his pride gets in the way of his growth. Because of his pride, when he competes against others he believes that he can't lose, thinking that his mental strength with always out weigh his opponents physical strength. If he does lose, he will be shocked and will try to figure out what it was in his calculations he somehow managed to miss. In a life or death situation, getting too cocky and thinking he can't lose could be fatal for him. He doesn't want to admit that sometimes his brain cant always save him. He won't back down or ask for help because his pride won't allow it. If he's going to win he wants it to be by his own paws.

[Irritable]
Kalani tends to have a slightly shorter temper than others. He can come across as grumpy to those who annoy him. He doesn't like cats who push at his boundaries and if they keep it up he'll probably snap at them. If he's having a bad day he'll most likely show it by being easily angered and grumbling about everything. If you manage to be the last straw that sets him off, be prepared to take on the full brunt of his anger. After Kalani manages to calm down he feels embarrassed and guilty about blowing up.


[Possessive]
Kalani struggles making close friends, so the few that he has mean a lot to him. He can sometimes see them as being his in a way, and if another cat comes along and tries to get close to them he feels threatened. He's usually afraid that they'll like that cat better and leave him. His possessive side also shows itself in his attractions. He doesn't want anyone touching or flirting with the cat he likes. He will usually act rather rude to the cat he feels threatened by and needs to be reassured for the behavior to stop.

Kalani often struggles with thinking he's smarter than others. Being competitive and confident make him a natural leader, but his pride tends to backfire on him, and instead of making suggestions he can often come across as giving orders. Thinking that others aren't smart enough to understand his idea, he'll ignore their suggestions and insist that his plan is best.

|Additional facts:

- His mother was sick while carrying him and his sister, so they were born prematurely and were very small and weak. This caused him to suffer from feline asthma and made him weak to other illnesses.
-His asthma began to go away as he got older, but he still gets the occasional cough when he is under high physical or mental stress. If he's not careful this could trigger a full on attack. 
- Due to his premature birth he is still smaller and physically weaker than other male cats. He may become stronger, but he will most likely always be smaller than everyone else.
- Due to being smaller and weaker than other cats, he's developed a bit of a complex about his size and finds it difficult to trust others due to his fear of his weakness.
- He's fascinated with the Followers but sees them as being rather foolish.  He believes he could easily outsmart them, or even lead them.  He's attracted to the power and authority of leading, but isn't so foolish as to run to the Followers to find it.
- He doesn't care much for the rain or the cold as it makes him feel uncomfortable.
- He enjoys days that are cloudy but warm.
- He's not very emotionally attached to either of his parents, but he is extremely close with his sister.
- He chose to be a Searcher, partially because his sister became one, but mainly because he wasn't strong enough for other jobs and he didn't have the skill to be a Crafter.
- When he was little he dreamed of growing up to be big and strong so he could be a warrior.  Due to his weak body he's realized he much prefers the idea of gaining power from knowledge.

|Romantic Behavior: Kalani tends to be very shy about showing affection in front of others, romantic or otherwise. Even while alone with the cat he tends to be nervous about it. When he likes someone, he shows it in subtle ways that are actually very noticeable if you know him. He'll often come across like he only looks up to them, but any time they turn their attention towards him he becomes a blushing flustered mess. When trying to flirt he often comes across as being upset with the cat, as he can't help but tease them in ways that could be described as rude or childish.
As Kalani gets older he gets better at schooling his expressions and using emotions as tools. When he genuinely likes someone though he still blushes up a storm and becomes very shy.  As he gets older he becomes more comfortable showing affection in private but refuses to take part in PDA unless he feels threatened by a possible competitor in love. He still teases the cats he likes but in ways that are more testing than rude, he wants to see how they react and handle it.

(( Brief History:


--- Before Birth

Kalani's parents Vince and Rachel met through friends, Rachel residing in the East Region, while Vince was a rogue. Vince thought Rachel was pretty and being a bit of a flirt, relentlessly pursued her. Rachel was very laid back and went along with Vince's antics and eventually agreed to become his mate. Rachel found Vince to be attractive, and no one had ever given her any romantic attention so she was easily persuaded. Vince was rather controlling and liked the idea of having a quiet, submissive mate to care for his kits. After mating it became clear to Vince that Rachel was rather weak physically and had a poor immune system. Through helping take care of her their fondness for each other grew into love. 

Enjoying their growing love, the two decided they wanted to start a family. The region healer suggested against this saying that Rachel's body was too weak to handle the strain of pregnancy. Rachel chose to ignore the advice and insisted that it would be fine. The idea of having kits excited Rachel surprisingly and she was determined to make it happen. Vince on the other hand was wary, afraid of the idea of being a father and wondering why Rachel would ignore her regions healers. He ultimately felt that a pregnancy was a bad idea. Rachel persisted and eventually persuaded Vince. A while later Rachel became pregnant. 

The pregnancy weakened her a bit but other then that it was fairly uneventful. She gave birth in the middle of winter to three kits, two females and one tom. Vince, having watched his mate give birth, felt as though maybe he had worried about nothing. Later that night while a snowstorm raged, Rachel woke to hear one of her kits crying. Upon inspection she found that two of her kits had died in the night. The death of her kits sent her into a depression. She refused to let her surviving kit leave her side, and refused to even see Vince. The living kit hadn't even been given a name, and wouldn't have one for a while. Over time Rachel finally felt normal enough to name her kit Zaelo, and went to speak with Vince. Vince was upset that Rachel had cut him off after the death of their kits. The situation had strained their relationship but they were determined to make it work. Rachel named the kits she lost Dove and Casper, hoping it would help her let go. 

Vince and Rachel's relationship was slowly falling apart. Their kit Zaelo, who had grown into a warrior, wanted nothing to do with them.  Her and her father fought often, both being very stubborn, and her mother being too smothering. Vince was overly controlling and struggled with the responsibility of being a father causing Zaelo to resent him. Rachel was convinced if they had kits again they could start over with them. Vince didn't want to leave Rachel but he also felt that having kits was a bad idea, not wanting to deal with the same troubles of raising Zaelo all over again. Rachel eventually convinced him to at least try. After agreeing, Vince began to have confusing and frightening dreams. The dreams dug up his old fears and attacked him with surprising force. Vince went to Rachel to tell her that he had changed his mind only to have her tell him that she was already pregnant. Vince spent the entire pregnancy with a feeling of dread and avoided Rachel. Rachel held on to the idea that if she could give Vince new kits he would love her again. Rachel became sick and had a bad fever. Because of this she went into labor prematurely and gave birth to the kits in the healers den. She gave birth to three kits: two toms and a female, and passed out from exhaustion afterwards. Upon waking up she found only two of her kits and was told the third one was a stillborn. The stillborn was buried and Rachel learned that her other two kits were very weak and sickly. She named the female Maisie and the male Kalani, this time she didn't name the lost kit. Feeling sick with dread and refusing to take on the responsibilities of being a father, Vince left Rachel claiming he wanted nothing to do with her or their kits.


--- Kithood

Kalani was very weak and sick as a kit. He and his sister were forced to stay in the healers den until it was safe for them to be around others. Due to Kalani being so physically weak he suffered from feline asthma. As the weather got colder Kalani started coughing, the coughing turned into wheezing, and soon he was vomiting from the strain on his body. Due to this he didn't move around much and rarely left the nest. He was a very lethargic kit, and the behavior was encouraged due to his condition. The only exercise he got was when his sister dragged him out of the nest to cause mischief. Due to not being allowed around other cats or leaving the healers den the two kits made their own entertainment by causing trouble for the healers. Maisie just liked to touch and smell their herbs but Kalani got the 'fantastic' idea to rearrange the herbs into different spots. The kits were scolded by the healers but were let off easy because they understood that the kits were restless. After roughly a moon the healers began to talk about moving the two kits into the nursery. They tried it for a couple days, everything was going well, until Kalani suffered from an asthma attack while trying to play with the other kits in the nursery. Kalani was brought back to the healers den and his sister joined him so he wouldn't feel alone. The healers explained to Kalani that he was physically weak, easily susceptible to illness, and that he needed to avoid straining his body. If he ignored their advice, he was more likely to get sick and would only worsen his asthma. He needed time to rest and heal his body before he started rough housing. Due to this he avoided physical activity and others kits, becoming rather reclusive.

Kalani's relationship with his father was complicated. Meaning that they had no relationship and it wasn't complicated at all. Vince left after refusing to accept his responsibilities as a father and was not seen again after that. Because of this Kalani's mother Rachel became very lenient, letting her kits do as they pleased. This was mostly due to her own guilt and the fear that if she became too protective she'd lose them as she lost Zaelo. Kalani couldn't care less about all of this, he didn't care about his father, barely paying attention to who he even was. Kalani wasn't concerned with the details of how he came to be or who is was that sired him, all he cared about was his sister Maisie. Maisie didn't refuse to acknowledge him, she didn't let him get away with anything, she saw the real him and accepted him. She was his best friend and the only one who understood him. Kalani felt that even if he only had Maisie, that would be enough. Having never had a father figure, he saw it as being normal and filled up that hole by becoming overly protective and dependent on his sister.

Kalani woke up one morning to the sun shining in his eyes from the entrance of the nursery. One paw under his chin, the other stretched out in front of him being warmed by the sun. The dark spot stood out against his soft pink paw pad. Kalani's eyes widened and he felt oddly cold. His stomach hurt and it felt as though his throat was closing up, not allowing any room for sound. To avoid having an asthma attack Kalani pretended he hadn't seen the mark, taking a deep breath, and going about his day hoping no one noticed how he dragged his paws along the ground. Kalani at first didn't understand how this could be possible but then remembered his mother mentioning once that her own mother had been a dark elemental. Kalani assumed it had simply skipped a generation and passed down to him. Kalani was afraid that he would grow to fall into darkness, that if he did, Maisie would leave his side. So he played stupid and pretended the mark was simply dirt that would eventually go away if he ignored it. It didn't. A few days later Maisie's mark appeared and she excitedly went around telling everyone she was a light elemental. Kalani tried his best to ignore everyone's questions about weather or not his mark had appeared yet. His mother noticed this and approached him about it. After some pushing Kalani admitted to learning that he was a dark elemental, Maisie appeared in front of them having overheard the conversation. Before Kalani could panic Maisie began to cry, apologizing to Kalani for not noticing how he was struggling. Releaved, Kalani easily forgave her, his mother telling him not to worry about what his element was. Maisie promised Kalani that she would help make sure he did not fall into darkness, helping to sooth kalani's fears. Though kalani was unsure and fearful of his element, Maisie was with him, and with her support he would be fine.

--- Rookie

The time had finally come for Kalani and his sister to become rookies. Kalani tried his best to sit up straight, refusing to shrink under the other cats gazes. Kalani still felt a little insecure about his element, but he didn't want to come across as weak as he stood up beside his sister. Kalani's stomach churned in his gut and his thin limbs trembled just slightly. He didn't even notice when Maisie received her main stone or when it was his turn. His sister nudged him, forcing him to focus and receive his stone. His main ability stone was Soul Perception, allowing him to read the emotions and personalities of others. Kalani's nerves began to bother him again, and if you asked him what he said, or what was said to him during the rest of the ceremony, he wouldn't be able to tell you. He figured that if he missed anything important Maisie would remind him, right now though he just wanted to get away from everyone. Once everything was over Kalani found a nice spot to nap, his sister soon joined him after talking with their new fellow rookies. Kalani was almost asleep when he heard someone sit down beside him. He opened his eyes to see his mother with a bag of her crafter supplies, after softly asking permission, she grabbed both of their main ability stones. Kalani figured she was probably going to make them accessories and chose to continue with his nap while their mother worked calmly beside them. Kalani wasn't sure how long he had slept for, he had stayed up late due to nerves so he figured he needed a good rest anyways. When he opened his eyes he found his mother standing before him holding a finished accessory, the Stone in the center of it appeared to be his. He was surprised to find that the accessory was a headpiece, His mother carefully placed in on his head and stepped back to look at the finished work. Kalani noticed his sister admiring her own accessory hanging around her neck. Suddenly his mother stood in front of him and asked him if he understood why she had made him a headpiece. He thought for a moment and found he couldn't understand his mothers logic, when he told her as much she smiled softly and almost looked like she was about to cry. In a soft voice she said to him, " its right there in the middle of your head for you and everyone to see. Let it be a reminder to you, the temptation to fall into darkness will be strong, you are stronger. Use your gifts to help your region and be proud of who you are, my boy". Kalani didn't know what to say at first, Kalani licked his mothers forehead in thanks, pretending he didn't have to stretch to do so. For the first time ever Kalani was happy to have the mother he had, he held onto her advice and took on the challenge ahead of him.

kalani's frail body shook with excitement, at least he thinks it was excitement, it could very well be from the cold. Flakes of ice fell slowly around him to form a thick blanket on the ground. For a moment he could ignore the cold gripping his body, enjoying the blank canvas of snow. After spending moons in the healers den surrounded by sickness, Kalani had never seen anything so pure and clean. He got the sudden urge to step out and mark it, ruining the perfection. He fought against his resistance to the cold and placed one soft paw into the icy powder. Kalani cringed at the cold wet feeling sinking between his toes, and stepped out further into the center of the makeshift camp. Kalani found himself up to his shoulders in the snow, He grumbled with irritation deciding that as pretty as it was he didn't care for actually touching the snow. he shifted trying to turn around but the snow simply fell onto him getting his fur wet, the cold sinking deeper into his small bones. He yowled in discomfort and tried to run back to the warmth of the healers den, stumbling through the snow struggling to find balance. Kalani finally made it to the den, bursting into the space like a bat out of hell. His sister chuckled at him, having woken up to witness the entire scene. "Shut up!" Kalani grumbled feeling out of breath, not quite used to physical activity. Kalani began to lick the snow out of his fur trying to bring some warmth back to his body. " Anyone who could enjoy playing in that mess is absolutely insane", he muttered climbing into his nest beside his sister. He curled up against her trying to get warm and decided that he did not care for anything cold or wet.
